What kind of vacuum do i need for aquarium?

I have an aquarium with sand substrate. I tried using my gravel vacuum on it but it didn’t suck up any of the debris. I held the vacuum a little above the sand jt like I am supposed to. The debris would go up the syphon a little then fall back down. I even tried getting closer to the sand and it did the same thing. Any ideas? Do i need a different kind of vacuum? I’ve heard of netting the sand. How do you do that?
I am not having any problems getting the suction started.

For only the end of the end of the end then hold it down at the bucket then get water at the sand with the end of the gravel filter or well mine does my sand with the gravel part you buy one good luck cleaning the sand for only good.
