Are Central Vacuums worth the price to add to a new home?

We are moving into a 4200sq ft home and have the option of spending $3400 for a central vac system. (Dirt Devil cv2600) We have a dog and have heard that it doesnt do as well picking up dog hair. My wife is a stickler for things being clean. Is it worth the price to have this installed for the convenience, or should we spend a lot less and get a great conventional vacuum and use the money toward other upgrades?

I’d go with the central vacuum, but get a few quotes $3400 seems a bit high. I don’t have a dog, but I don’t see why they wouldn’t pick up dog hair.
