The All Important Vacuum Cleaner Bags

MIKE SELVON asked:

There is no disputing that vacuum cleaners are an important component to making sure that the inside environment in both residences and offices stay clean. Life without vacuums would mean that dust and dirt would accumulate and soon make breathing difficult, as settled dust recirculates back into the air being breathed. Vacuum cleaner bags are a critical component of an effective and efficient vacuum cleaner.

Its bags are an essential component to the most common types of vacuums and are utilized in both upright and in canister ones. Obviously, vacuum bags are not used in the bagless ones. A bagless one instead uses a dust collection bin which can simply be dumped out, cleaned and then replaced for further use.

The problem with the bagless ones is that when the dustbin is opened for cleaning, some of the collected dust becomes airborne. This is of particular concern to people who have asthma, allergies, or are sensitive to dust.

Vacuum cleaner bags allow the operator of its cleaner to change the bag, thereby disposing of the collected dirt, without having to come into direct physical contact with the debris. Many people greatly prefer this over the bagless vacuums and would never even consider using a vacuum that does not use bags.

The main purpose of vacuum bags is to safely collect and retain the dust, dirt, pet hair and other particles that has been captured during the process of vacuuming. Once the bags are filled to capacity, then they are to be changed.

If the bags are not changed frequently enough, then this can cause problems with efficiency, since the suction action of it will be reduced. This is one reason why others prefer not to use vacuums that have bags. Most of the bagless vacuums have collection reservoirs that are clear so that the operator knows exactly when it is time to empty the container.

Because bags cannot be seen into, they must be judged by feel as far as knowing if they are reaching their capacity. Some people try to extend the usefulness of the bags by not changing them as frequently as they should.

Unfortunately, this only serves to short-change the person because it will not have the suction power needed when the bag is overly full. In fact, some of the dust and dirt can even start to be exhausted back into the room when its bag is too full.

In order to get the most vacuuming power and best efficiency out of your machine, it is important to have a ready supply of the proper vacuum bags on hand. This will allow you to change the bag before it gets too full and before there are any problems with dirt being released back into the environment of the home. Skimping on buying them ends up costing much more in terms of lack of efficiency and possible maintenance problems with the machine, if it is often run with bags that are too full.

When shopping for the best one for your home and your specific needs, it is a good idea to consider the vacuum cleaner bags that are required for the unit you are thinking about buying. Check to see how expensive the vacuum bags are for that model and also the capacity and recommended guidelines for replacing them. Also, it is a good idea to see how readily available the bags are at your favorite retailer, so that you know you can conveniently purchase replacements without extra shopping trips or special ordering.

Features To Look For In A Vacuum Cleaner

Saturday, July 4th, 2009
Pencil Writer asked:

Cleaning the household or office has never been easy before, thanks to the invention of vacuum cleaners! They have made cleaning process such a pleasurable and easy work! They come in various shapes and sizes to appeal the general masses. Also in different capacities and various features included, vacuum cleaners have become kind of a must-have device in all homes. Models that are self propelled, with options that would be gentle on the back of the user, self-driven modes etc are available. Though many types and capacities have come in the market, there are various important things to be considered while buying a vacuum cleaner and these remain the same in all types.

One of the main things to be considered is the space of the house that needs vacuuming. If the house is huge and has a lot of area to be vacuumed, then the cleaner purchased should be big and should have heavy duty functions as well. Also for different floor types, the machines required would be different. For example the same adjustment would not go for a floor that has been carpeted and the floor that is not. If the rooms have many corners and are shaped differently, then a machine with long hose and a 360 o swivel facility is required.

Also if anyone in the house is allergic or has asthma, then having a vacuum cleaner is very useful. Choosing cleaners that are accredited by the British Allergy Foundation is also very useful, as this organisation accredits only those machines that are fit for allergy and asthma patients. There are certain other features which have to be taken care of while purchasing the machine. It should be checked if the electric cord can be re-winded automatically and that the machine is easy to be stored anywhere. Having a “bag full” indicator in machines that use a bag to collect the dust, is very useful, as this helps the user know when to clean or empty the bag.

Another thing to be noted is the distance that the machine can travel from the point that it is plugged to the electrical sockets. The more independently the machine can travel, the more advantageous. The dust bag capacity is also to be taken into account. Many models come between the capacity of 4-6 litres, however, even as high as 9 litres are also available. These bags also come in self sealing and use-and-throw options and well. Noise levels are very important to be checked. The more the quieter, the more peacefully work can be finished! Usually the noise level comes up to 70-75dB, which is considered the quietest.

Some machines also come with a separate compartment to save tools for cleaning. The tool attachments depend on the different types and models of cleaners. If there are staircases in the house, then long hoses are required to clean as it is otherwise not possible to clean them. Extension tubes are also available nowadays to extend the pipe that is used to clean, in order to give additional length to the cleaner. Fittings that go to every nook and corner of the room are a definite requirement. The swivel hose completely swings in all directions, thus enabling easy cleaning of floors.

With so many options and advantages of vacuum cleaner, it is only important and a necessity to own one. This not only saves time but also results in a clean, tidy and wonderful looking home.
